Aston Martin RapidE – A Glimpse into an Environmentally Friendly Future

This week Aston Martin unveiled an environmentally-conscious glimpse at the future outside Lancaster House in London:

The Aston Martin RapidE

As the site of an international creative summit and key meeting between Their Royal Highnesses Prince William, Duke of Cambridge; Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and President of The People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, Aston Martin felt Lancaster House was the optimal setting for the debut.
The plush, four-door electric sports saloon is the fruit of a partnership between brilliant minds at Aston Martin and Williams Advanced Engineering. Designed to demonstrate the “capability and ambition of Aston Martin towards developing low- and zero-emission sports cars” the RapidE blends technical innovation with the traditional expectations of British luxury.

As the world moves away from fossil fuels in favour of more sustainable sources of energy, Aston Martin knows “luxury electric vehicles [must be] an intrinsic part of [its] future portfolio,” said company CEO Dr Andy Palmer.
The development of the RapidE is backed by Chinese investment group, ChinaEquity, which wants to further examine production potential in the high-end electric motor car market currently dominated by Silicon Valley carmaker Tesla.

If, following intense evaluation, the concept proves successful, the new luxury sports car will be constructed at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire—the first commercial production run could be just two short years away.
