Bentley has revealed the latest evolution of its Bentayga SUV at a virtual event near to the home of Bentley in Crewe, England. Bringing a modernised design – inspired by the latest Continental GT and Flying Spur – brand new technology innovations and a luxurious new interior, the new Bentayga cements its position as the leading sporting luxury SUV.
Bentley’s Director of Design, Stefan Sielaff was on-hand to talk the remote audience through the bold new design, featuring an assertive, more upright front grille. A pair of new, even more advanced LED elliptical headlights are pushed further apart, offering a new, instantly recognisable design signature and incredible road presence. The rear has undergone a major transformation with a complete overhaul of the surfaces and a new tailgate, including jewellery-like lights. When illuminated, they offer a deep three-dimensional glow, as well as an animated ‘welcome’ feature with a sweeping direction indicator.
Inside, Bentley designers have created an even more relaxing environment for passengers. The changes are too numerous to list, but major revisions to the door trims, steering wheel and centre console ensure the Bentayga’s cabin remains at the cutting edge. All-new seats have been designed to further improve on the industry-recognised benchmark for seat comfort.
The new centre console houses a latest-generation 10.9-inch infotainment screen, sat within the famed Bentley ‘wings’ design across the dashboard. The central pair of traditional ‘bullseye’ centre vents have been replaced by a sculptured single vent with a flowing chrome bezel, that sits above the main infotainment screen and integrates the Breitling clock into its form.
A new quilting design is included in Mulliner Driving Specification cars, while customers can choose from eight sustainably-sourced veneers including two straight grained options new to Bentayga – Koa and Crown Cut Walnut.
Unique to new Bentayga, a stunning, dark tint diamond brushed aluminium finish trim is available as an option in a Bentley for the first time. Evoking the Bentley matrix grille design, this exquisite finish is produced via an intricate process of brushing the aluminium from multiple directions, to achieve a contemporary three-dimensional effect.
On the road, improvements to Bentley Dynamic Ride have made the Bentayga more capable, comfortable and refined than ever. It instantly counteracts lateral rolling forces when cornering, and is combined with the widest range of on and off-road drive settings of any SUV. Drivers can select the perfect dynamic set-up for any surface or road condition at the turn of a dial.
The new Bentayga V8 is powered by the proven 4.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged V8, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, just as in its predecessor. The engine develops 550PS, accelerating to 62mph in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 180mph. In late 2020, the new Bentayga will be offered in Hybrid specification and in more powerful W12 Speed guise, providing a breadth of choice to buyers unheard of in this segment.
The new Bentley Bentayga will be available in our showrooms in London, Berkshire, Surrey and Hatfield soon. If you’d be interested in seeing it in the metal, or experiences it from behind the wheel, please feel free to contact us.
