2015 has been a banner year thus far for Bentley, kicking off with the company’s flagship seasonal event:
Power on Ice
On the frozen lakes of Finland, the Continental GT3-R and Mulsanne Speed made their debut surrounded by the warm glow of over 200 Bentley enthusiasts, making it the largest attendance in event history.
Tracks made from six-foot thick ice and designed by four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen, demonstrated the unrelenting power of Bentley’s crème de la crème. The Mulsanne Speed was joined by the crown jewel of the Continental family of Grand Tourers, the Continental GT3-R.
Inspired by the Continental GT3 race car, the GT3-R is a unique blend of performance-driven luxury that expertly meets the demands of the closed track or open road. With only 300 examples, seeing the Bentley GT3-R on ice quickly became the exclusive highlight of the event, impressing all comers with its range capabilities.
Two charity competition winners also joined the team in Finland. Two of the highly prised spaces for Power on Ice were donated by Bentley as prises in a generous competition that rose over £11,000 for the charity Care2Save, which works to improve excellence in hospice and palliative care around the world.
As Care2Save winner Ian Bradley, commented:
“Getting behind the wheel of a Bentley on a frozen lake in Finland was truly exhilarating. The opportunity to passenger with Juha Kankkunen, while enjoying luxurious hospitality, contributed to what was a once in a lifetime experience, and all for a worthy cause, Care2Save.”
The Story of Power on Ice
Power on Ice is an elite, four-day event that allows attendees to fully immerse themselves in the Bentley driving experience. A range of Bentley models are made available for driving beyond the basic restrictions of the day-to-day.
In addition to the Mulsanne Speed and GT3-R, Bentley provided a range of Continental GTs and Flying Spurs utilising their all-wheel drive systems to dominate the icy driving challenge with ease. By constantly readjusting the distributable power between the front and rear wheels, Bentley’s Grand Tourers ensure optimal traction delivery regardless of the driving surface.
Power on Ice also features snowmobile rides and ice-karting to provide attendees with an even more diverse array power and speed.
The event, which ran through February 2015, provided two full days of extreme driving demonstrations delivered by Kankkunen and in-car tuition from the Bentley Ice Driving Team, creating a truly memorable Bentley-centred experience.
