Bentley has revealed the next steps in its plans to become a fully electric brand by 2030, in line with their recently announced Beyond100 strategy. As the model range transitions from pure combustion to pure electric, the steppingstone of plug-in hybrid vehicles will become ever-more prominent and the latest two petrol-electric models are now on sale: the Bentayga Hybrid and Flying Spur Hybrid.
Outlining the Crewe firm’s path to sustainability, Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy demonstrates how they plan to make its future a reality and, in turn, become the leading maker of luxury electric cars. Helping to build on the carbon-neutral status of their factory in Crewe, the luxury car manufacturer has laid out their plans for becoming carbon-neutral from 2030 – and climate positive from then on.
Just one element of Bentley becoming end-to-end carbon neutral by the end of the decade is through the types of cars it produces. Bentley has made significant leaps forward, from concept cars featuring electric powertrains to subsequent launches of Bentley hybrid vehicles.
As Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive Office of Bentley Motors, explains, “within a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100-year-old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury.”
The Flying Spur Hybrid
The new Flying Spur Hybrid* showcases Bentley’s ability to combine sustainable design with exquisite craftsmanship and truly effortless performance. Thanks to the quiet operation of the electric motor, travelling inside the car is a near-silent experience – until the time is right to switch into Sport mode and put your foot down. With a 2.9 litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine and a powerful 100kW electric motor, the Flying Spur Hybrid offers effortless power on the open road alongside the ability to drive on electric power alone. Even without the petrol engine engaged, you can drive at motorway speeds.
*Flying Spur Hybrid is available to order in most markets, but is currently not available in EU27, UK, Switzerland, Israel, Ukraine, Norway, Turkey and Vietnam.
The Bentayga Hybrid
Created in an entirely carbon-neutral workshop, this is the most progressive and advanced Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) to bear the Bentley badge. This luxury SUV enhances the distinctive character of the Bentayga with progressive new technology and expands the definition of Bentley performance by enhancing one particular attribute: a sense of calm. The blissful silence of its all-electric mode extends for 25 miles, enough to cover those everyday journeys, making the Bentayga experience as serene as it is exhilarating. And when the E-Motor is combined with the powerful V6 engine, an effortless wave of power launches you from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds, soaring on to a top speed of 158mph.
