Bentley unveils new Flying Spur – the most powerful, most dynamic, and most efficient four-door in the luxury performance brand’s 105-year history
“The engineer has been, and is, a maker of history,” observed the US educator James Kip Finch. Those words represent a truism well known to every Bentley engineer working at the company’s global headquarters in Crewe today. They need only look back in time to see how their predecessors changed the game, supplementing class-leading combustion engines with technology to increase performance, first with supercharging in the 1920s and then with turbocharging in the 1980s.
Now, it is the turn of Bentley’s current engineers to make history by going one step further with the concept of ‘electrocharging’ as featured on the recently revealed new Flying Spur.
Launched in Continental GT Speed guise and equipped with the peerless combination of a new 4.0- litre twin-turbo V8 engine and a powerful yet compact electric motor, the new Flying Spur musters an epic 782PS and an incredible 1,000 Nm of torque.
The new model’s innovative and highly potent hybrid is the most technologically advanced and most potent powertrain in Bentley’s long history. It also heralds a new era of efficiency, with CO2 emissions below 40 g/km, an electric driving range of more than 45 miles and an overall range of more than 500 miles.
“The Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain is our future, delivering astonishing flexibility from incredibly accessible supercar performance to silent, effortless electric luxury,” confirms Bentley. “When fitted to the new Flying Spur, the powertrain will create the ultimate Bentley sedan – potent and tranquil in equal measure, with the added benefit of soundless electric motoring for at least 45 miles.”
We look forward to welcoming you to test drive the new Bentley Flying Spur, so that you can experience the power of Ultra Performance Hybrid and make your own driving history, very soon.
