In February, members of Jack Barclay Bentley’s exclusive Jack’s Club gathered at the showroom for the first time in 2020 for an evening of inspirational rugby tales from a line-up of legends of the sport.
Organised in association with Champions Speakers, Jack’s Club members were regaled by Rugby World Cup-winning Martin Johnson CBE, World Rugby Hall of Fame member, Maggie Alphonsi MBE, former Wales captain, Jonathan Davies OBE and former British and Irish Lions players, Craig Chalmers and Paul Wallace.
As guests arrived they were greeted with complimentary Savile Row Gin cocktails and left to wander the historic floors of Jack Barclay Bentley, admiring some of the latest new models – including the Bentley Continental GTC – as they went. As anticipation grew, Jack’s Club members headed down to the iconic chequered floor of the basement for a uniquely personal insight into rugby’s highest echelons.
From Martin Johnson’s tales of lifting the World Cup after Johnny Wilkinson’s now-legendary dropkick in Australia during 2003, to Jonathan Davies’ tales of heroics at fly-half for Wales and beyond in a career that spanned 13 years, it was an inspiring evening of what passion and determination can achieve. Maggie Alphonsi shared her story of success with one of the most invincible teams in sporting history, an England line-up that won seven successive Six Nations titles and a sixth Grand Slam in seven years.
Craig Chalmers and Paul Wallace offered a Scottish and Irish perspective on the game, racking up 60 appearances and 46 appearances respectively for their countries. Both also went on to form part of a British and Irish Lions line-up of elite players.
Humbled by the collective achievements of the panel, Jack’s Club members were then treated to the classical crossover tones of opera singer, Faith Tucker. The young soprano recently appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, and wowed the judges with her note-perfect rendition of Sei Tu La Ragionne.
