Radford Returns, a brand new feature-length documentary, has premiered on Discovery Plus. Showing the journey of Jenson Button, Ant Anstead, Mark Stubbs and Roger Behle as they revive the art of coachbuilding using technology for the 21st century and the responsibility that comes with reviving the legendary Radford name.
The close-knit and passionate Radford team partnered with iconic British sportscar manufacturer Lotus, plus a host of industry leading automotive specialists and suppliers, to produce the last ever petrol-powered Lotus supercar and the first Radford built in decades.
Radford Returns candidly documents the entire project from inspiration, to inception and delivery of the first incarnation of the Lotus Type 62-2, with unfettered access to the people and the technology behind the design, the build and the development of a new, ultra-limited supercar, of which only 62 examples will be handbuilt to bespoke customer specifications.
The documentary includes extensive and rare archive footage to showcase the history of the original 1960’s Lotus Type 62 and the Lotus brand which inspired the Radford team. The team were given exclusive access to the production facility of the Lotus Exige, the platform on which the Radford Type 62-2 is based. It deconstructs the painstaking process of designing, modelling, engineering and building the new car ready for production, including fabricating an extended chassis to ensure the supercar stays true to the stunning proportions of its namesake.
Finally, the show covers what it takes to launch a business and a new, luxury automotive brand, built for the exacting standards of a global clientele, and the relationships that grow among the team along the way.
Radford Returns marks the culmination of the Radford Type 62-2 project, including the world’s first ever footage of the John Player Special Type 62-2 being driven on track at the Lotus test track, by Jenson Button. Now streaming on Discovery Plus.
