H.R. Owen Specialist Cars has thrown the group’s latest Drive Out event, inviting owners and enthusiasts to enjoy their machinery in the south-west of England on a Somerset road trip.
A convoy of some of the UK’s finest luxury and performance cars and their owners enjoyed a picturesque and engaging route taking in stunning countryside vistas and idyllic villages, with the prestigious museum and its 400 vehicle collection the finish line.
Awaiting them at the Haynes museum, the stunning selection of regular exhibits includes something for petrolheads of all stripes.
The Dawn of Motoring display is perfect for automotive history buffs, including the very oldest vehicles in the Haynes collection and a replica of an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen. For those seeking some more high-octane rarities, the Hall of Motorsport, opened by the late Sir Stirling Moss in 1997, includes competition cars from all eras, road, track and rally.
Rare and unusual cars are found in the Wheels Around the World exhibition, while bike enthusiasts can take in the British and World Motorcycle and Forshaw Speedway Collection.
The Haynes Museum also stages temporary exhibitions, and at the museum for our convoy, two unique experiences were laid on.
Motorsport buffs and Williams F1 fans can see up close and personal the extraordinary legacy of Britain’s most honoured Formula 1 team, Williams, nine times World Constructors Champions and still racing in Formula 1 today. Williams F1 – The Drivers and the Driven, includes a collection of the team’s championship winning machines, unique insight into the drivers who raced them, and several unique displays.
The Ferrari drivers in our convoy took in another special exhibition: Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine. It’s an exploration in words and film of the man who founded Ferrari, along with a collection of some of his company’s most iconic cars.
