Vintage Supercar: 1989 Aston Martin V8 Zagato Volante

It has been almost 30 years since this beauty made its debut at the 1987 Geneva Motor Show. Yet thankfully, some things only get better with age. A case in point is the ’89 Aston Martin V8 Zagato Volante, which recently entered our showroom.

Possessing an undeniably unique design for its time, this stunner is very rare, as there were only a handful of these cars made before the model was retired. Hence it’s a real honour and a pleasure to have such an amazing specimen in the HR Owen showroom.
The V8 Zagato Volante is only the third iteration of the collaborative relationship between Aston Martin and Zagato, the renowned design house from Milan, for which no introduction is necessary. The model which preceded it – the standard V8 Zagato – is incredibly rare and sought after by collectors, with only 52 models being made. However, the Aston Martin V8 Zagato Volante is even more coveted among high-end auto collectors, since even fewer examples of it exist than its predecessor, at just 37 cars.

If you don’t think this V8 Zagato Volante is a stunner when it comes to looks, then shame on you! Its performance should be enough to leave you more than satisfied. For its time, this automobile was considered a veritable supercar with serious performance statistics, which are impressive, even by today’s standards.

The V8 Zagato Volante runs on a 430 horse power engine equipped with carburettors supplied by Weber. The car’s construction is all-alloy, and it can attain top speeds over 186 mph. Furthermore, its 0-60 time is an impressive 4.8 seconds, thanks to a 5430cc engine.

The convertible’s interior is accented in crisp cream and navy blue hues, and to say it’s luxurious would be an understatement.

A notable owner of the V8 Zagato model include actor, screenwriter and comedian Rowan Atkinson who bought the first right-hand model ever produced. Slightly different to the car pictured above, Atkinson had the vehicle converted to Aston Martin Owners Club racing series C2 specification for roughly 220,000 GBP.
